What is Shellharbour Connect?

Shellharbour Connect is brought to you by Shellharbour City Council to connect people in our local area. The purpose of this site is to provide a central gateway to Shellharbour community information and offer a space for groups and organisations to share updates on local projects, events and news. Our aim is to support and collaborate with local groups, organisations and the community to share knowledge and resources in an interactive way.

Shellharbour City Council manages and maintains this site on behalf of all community agencies and groups that service the Shellharbour LGA, however Council’s involvement in Shellharbour Connect does not necessarily mean it supports, endorses or funds any projects or events featured on this site.


How do I use Shellharbour Connect?

Who's behind Shellharbour Connect?

Shellharbour Connect is an initiative of Shellharbour City Council’s Community Connections Team.

We consider this website as a work in progress - we want to meet the needs of the Shellharbour community and service providers who work within our community, and therefore welcome your feedback.

Who can list on Shellharbour Connect?

The purpose of Shellharbour Connect is to provide a central gateway to Shellharbour community information and offer a space for groups and organisations to share updates on local projects, events and news.

To be eligible to list your service, organisation, group, individual or place, you must be a community group or non-profit organisation who is physically located or delivering community projects / programs within the Shellharbour Local Government Area.

You must also have a core function of contributing to the cultural, social, educational and/or recreational interests of the Shellharbour community.

Examples of eligible entries include:

  • Non for profit agencies and organisations
  • Community groups and associations
  • Community and neighbourhood centres
  • Social or sporting clubs
  • Community and cultural public facilities and spaces
  • Primary and high schools
  • Employment agencies and chambers of commerces
  • Local charities and volunteer groups
  • Churches and religious groups
  • Government agencies
  • Individuals who make significant contributions to the social fabric of Shellharbour

Organisations that charge for services for the purpose of making a profit are generally not eligible.

Shellharbour City Council checks all requests for suitability before they are displayed on the site. This will usually occur within one working day of the entry being submitted. All decisions regarding inclusion on Shellharbour Connect rest with Shellharbour City Council.

Whilst we may acknowledge activities and involvement from surrounding suburbs where relevant, we reserve the right to refuse content outside the boundary of our city.


How do I create an account?

If your organisation or group is already listed, please claim your listing details on your organisation's profile. You will then be prompted to update and complete the details within your profile. You will also be given a password to continue to update your profile in the future.

If you are not yet listed and would like to request an account and profile, please click the ‘add your details’ link on the home page of the site.

You will then be prompted to provide the following information:

  • Name of organisation / group / individual
  • Location address
  • Postal Address
  • Phone and fax number
  • Email Address
  • Website and social media links
  • Hours of operation
  • A description of the listing
  • Programs and activities you run in the community
  • Information about resources and skills you are willing to share with other groups (optional)

You will also be asked to choose a category or categories and given the opportunity to add your logo and up to 3 pictures of your organisation/ group.

By using Shellharbour Connect you are agreeing to:

  • give accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by any registration forms on the site;
  • protect your password and identification
  • maintain your profile, to keep it accurate, current and complete; and
  • be fully responsible for all use of your account and for any actions that take place using your account.

You are responsible for the text, photos, videos and any other material you add to this site. You cannot submit any material that you did not create yourself or that you do not have permission or rights to post.


What are the Terms & Conditions of Use?

By participating in Shellharbour Connect, you are agreeing to act within the following guidelines:

Be respectful of others and help everyone feel welcome - do not post anything which incites, induces or aids violence, discrimination or harassment, or is likely to offend, insult or humiliate others. Shellharbour City Council reserves the right to refuse inclusion or remove without notice. Such refusions include:

  • Listings containing links to, or advertising for, commercial services
  • Listings where information is found to be out-of-date or whose functioning is unreliable
  • Listings where ownership or authorship cannot be easily identified
  • Listings which are deemed offensive in the opinion of Shellharbour City Council
  • Listings which condone or promote illegal or anti-social activities

Help build a community you want to be a part of - It is your responsibility to ensure the content you upload is appropriate for the purpose and audience of this website. If your judgment proves to be poor, we'll moderate your account appropriately, send you a warning or if necessary remove your content.

Additionally, if you see behaviour that is making you or other people feel uncomfortable, please report it. Please also understand that Shellharbour City Council’s involvement in Shellharbour Connect does not necessarily mean it supports, endorses or funds any plans featured on this site.

Keep it relevant - only post material to the site that is relevant to the focus of the site and topics being discussed. Don't use this site for advertising or any kind of spam. Don't post other people's ideas or copyrighted material.

Keep it private – To ensure your privacy is protected, please don't post your personal phone numbers or addresses. Do not access or use another user's account or create false identities or pose as another person or entity.

Generally, if your behavior does not contribute to the fun, supportive and welcoming environment this site provides, your content may be removed and your account closed.
