Early childhood health clinics provide services to all families with babies and children aged birth to 5 years. Services include infant health checks, maternal support and groups for new parents. Groups and appointments are provided at different times at different centres so please ensure you call to make an appointment. Early Childhood Centres are staffed by experienced Midwife/Child & Family qualified nurses. This is a FREE service provided to parents/carers by NSW Health. Child & Family Nurses offer support, information and recommended health checks for your baby, as outlined in the Personal Health Record (blue book). Health checks include growth and development of the child, information and appropriate resources relevant to the age of the child and concerns of the parent/carer. We offer a newborn assessment as a home visit or you can visit us in one of the cliincs provided throughout the Illawarra (see list below). Having a baby is both a physical and emotional experience. Child & Family Nurses work with the parent/carer, providing help with mothercraft eg: feeding, settling, sleep, growth,d evelopment, safety and behaviour. At the same time the Child & Family Nurses provide help, information and referral to other resources that support the physical and mental health of the parent/carer. We also run groups for parents/carers of 0-6 months old babies, pram walking groups 0 -24 months old, and Drop-in Breastfeeding groups.
