If you're a shower singer who thinks she deserves a wider audience than just the family pet, or a woman who can carry a tune and you live in or near Shellharbour, then your life may be about to get more interesting.
There's a new women's a cappella choir - or singing without musical accompaniment to you and me - starting up on May 2 and Choir Leader, Antoinette Raynal, is currently on the hunt for more choir members.
"Katandra" will be the newest of nine Hummingsong non-auditioned, a Capella community choirs across Sydney, in Hilversum (The Netherlands), and now in The Illawarra!
Hummingsong was founded by choir director Anna Humberstone. The choirs focus on supporting community, both within the choirs and in the greater community. Since 2012 over $100,000 has been raised through choir concerts to support initiatives in six local women's shelters in Sydney's north. With beautiful repertoire from a wide range of musical styles, they regularly collaborate with guest artists including James Morrison, The Idea of North, Moira Smiley and Darren Percival.
Hummingsong also hosts "Stand Up, Sing Out Sydney" (SuSoS), an annual community singing event that unites men, women and children through song to raise awareness and funds for organisations that support the wellbeing of people in our community. There is no audience, only participants! The inaugural event in 2016 united over 900 people in song with guest Australian artists Lior and Christine Anu to celebrate the power of building stronger communities and stand up against domestic violence. All profits went to White Ribbon. SuSoS 2017 will be in support of the amazing service that Lifeline provides to our community.
Katandra will rehearse on Tuesday evenings in Shellharbour City from 7.30-9.30pm during public school term, commencing on May 2nd.
